Artificial floral arrangements have a bad reputation. After all, there was a time when fake flowers were considered tacky and anyone who used them didn’t fare much better in the name-calling department. Fresh flowers, on the other hand, signify life and vitality. Like the pineapple, they’re a sign of welcome (and of someone who cares enough to tend to fresh flowers).

But did you know that the royals once used (and adored) artificial flowers in their homes? If it’s good enough for a castle, surely it’s good enough for your bathroom!

All that said, artificial floral arrangements for your home should be given a second look. The arrangements available today look so life-like, you can barely tell the difference between them and real flowers.

When used wisely, they add a much-needed pop of color. They also come without the hassle and headache of fresh, soil-grown flowers. There’s nothing worse than the moment you bump a vase and feel it start to tumble, sending water and petals all over your floor!

Hopefully the following will shed an appreciative light on artificial flower arrangements and give you ideas to incorporate them in your home.

Petals Inc.

Monochromatic Arrangements

Monochromatic is always stunning and elegant. You can match the color palette of the room or you can pick a color that will add contrast and depth to that space.

Some ideas for monochromatic artificial floral arrangements include: peonies, hydrangeas, tulips, and orchids. These flowers are all detailed enough that, when gathered together in an arrangement, look life-like and intentional.

Just be sure you’re selecting artificial or even silk flowers that are high-quality. While it’s frowned-upon to judge a book by its cover, fake flowers could belie their secrets based on their initial appearance.

Artificial Succulents

Succulents are so popular right now. As such, artificial succulents have grown in popularity, variety, and availability, too. These falsies are great for spaces where you want to add a pop of life, but have low light or can’t sustain a real plant. An artificial succulent in that spot would look almost normal and make guests second guess the validity of the plant. Try them in your bathroom or a north-facing window that doesn’t get much sun.

Artificial Floral Arrangement Ideas

If you’re having a dinner party, no one wants a floral scent wafting over their food. Artificial silk arrangements will welcome your guests and be inviting like real flowers, though their scents and pollen won’t overpower or intrude on your meal.

These stylish silk centerpieces can be gathered to make one large arrangement for an elegant statement. As with real flowers on your dining room table, make sure they’re not so tall, your guests can’t see each other

If you have a long table, consider groupings of artificial flowers. When you split your silk flower arrangements over the length of the table, you create a modern tablescape. Sprinkle in unscented candles or other natural elements like sea glass and driftwood. These organic elements will make your artificial flower arrangements “feel” more real.

When you split your large artificial arrangement into smaller groupings, you can also keep them on the table throughout the whole meal whereas a centerpiece might have to be moved to accommodate serving platters (and that could give away their status as “not real”).

Classic Casual Home

A place that’s high traffic is a prime spot for an artificial floral arrangement in your home. Because of that, entryways were made for artificial arrangements. They greet you with a sunny burst of color and you don’t have to worry if they get knocked about. Further, they’ll always be there and you don’t have to come home to wilted flowers and dropped leaves.

For the most part, anywhere you’d like to add instant color and life is a great spot to decorate with artificial arrangements. Place them on your desk to bring creativity and freshness to your at-home work area. Create a large bouquet that is a stunning showstopper for your living room. Or sprinkle small, single flowers in bud vases around your space. They’d look just precious like that on the shelves of an etagere.

Because they come in many different sizes and configurations, you’ll be able to find an arrangement that speaks to you and looks great in your home!

 How to Clean Your Arrangements

Artificial plants will gather dust and, if you’re not diligent, a tell-tale layer of grime since they’re usually always in the same spot in your room. Because of that, you could really give away the fact that these are not fresh flowers. To clean your artificial flower arrangements, dust them regularly in your weekly dusting routine and deep clean them by rinsing or wiping them with a damp cloth about twice a year. If you have silk flowers, you’ll want to avoid getting them wet as liquid could damage the delicate material and cause the colors to bleed. Instead, use this dry dusting method from Apartment Therapy.

Decorating with Faux Florals

I hope you’ve seen a new side of silk and artificial flower arrangements, especially in areas of your home where you want the vitality of fresh flowers without the work. Just remember: these arrangements will still need care (just in a different way than fresh flowers) to maintain their realistic look.

Place artificial flower arrangements on a side table in your hallway, use artificial succulents in a low-light area in your home, or create a fanciful centerpiece on your dining table!
